The 34th IIEE Annual National Convention

The Annual Convention, with the theme "Achieving Excellence Amidst Global Challenges," offered technical presentations for electrical engineering practitioners on various topics including renewable energy, new test equipment, grounding system, partial discharge analysis, energy conservation, voltage sags, arc flash analysis, etc. Delegates also witnessed an array of companies showcasing their products and services in the 3E XPO 2009 which converged the electrical, electronics and energy (3E) sectors under one grand venue for exposition.

NGCP should continue to encourage employees especially engineers to attend such conventions for continuous professional education and to be abreast with the latest trend in engineering and technology which creates an opportunity to upgrade human resources skills and capabilities, hence, the corporation's growth as well.

so much for that blahblahs..hehe..this is the real blog behind the convention proper..

it was really a big surprise for me when i heard that i'll be going to this convention out of the many engineers at ngcp..it would not only be that the registration would be shouldered by the corporation but also that i would be given the opportunity to earn my cpe (continuous professional education, correct me if i'm wrong) units, which is now required by prc (professional regulatory commission ) to renew my license as an electrical engineer..and also a big break to my nearly routinely work at operations..

the first day is nearly a big pain in the @$$*&..going there in time has not been met because plan a of riding the mrt became impossible..the line was really overwhelming, from the inspection area up to the ground floor..imagine all the stairs of 4 floors jam packed with people..no space..shoulder to shoulder..and the line was not moving for 30 minutes i guess because all the trains coming from north edsa was already jam packed..so plan b would be taking the city bus ride which required more time because of the expected traffic and loading/unloading delays..but at least we're moving..

and again..i have to wait in line again for almost 3 hours for the registration..hunger is an understatement..

but thank god..i had the chance to be at phelps dodge seminar which happen to be held at the mall of asia, too..free lunch..free gifts..free electrical tape..free siopao..what more can i ask for..hehehe..

going back again to the convention..it's our time to visit the exposition..this is the fun part..going around the exhibits and meeting different suppliers and manufacturers..games and promos..i even beat the challenge of motolite and akari winning me special gifts..free bags..free pens..free product demos..free coffee..free ice cream..free product catalogs..free catalogs..free key chains..free candies..who said "wala ng libre ngayon!.." but at the end of the day, the burden would be handling the baggage to diliman..hehehe..that's not free..it cost me energy, i guess..

then came the seminar/technical sessions..honestly..maybe 70% of the topics discussed did not interest me..on statistics, 4 out of 16 of the sessions, i fell asleep..25%..not that bad..harhar..maybe the reason most of the time are the speakers..they're not that good as speakers, maybe they are more of a technical person, not marketing people..

or maybe i am not that acquainted yet to the organization..but i hope..next year..the convention would be better..and i hope i'll get the chance to be there again..
